Man is a spirit, who possesses a soul, and lives in a body. Brother Kenneth E. Hagin said “The soul is the intellect. It is man's sensibilities and will. It is the part of man that reasons and thinks. It deals with the mental realm.”
Romans 12:1-2 (KJV)
12 "I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.
2 "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
The spirit becomes new at the moment that you accept Jesus into your heart, but our soul, well that’s another story. It takes time to renew your mind, and it won’t happen overnight. When your soul is renewed you will begin to think and operate in line with the Word. I have noticed that people that won’t renew their minds act like they did before they got saved and get caught up in sin.
I tell people all the time that the hardest thing about being a Christian is to be one but try and live like you're not one. I have also noticed that people that stay away from church, or don’t read their Bible much soon forget who they really are. When you move them back into fellowship with other believers their whole attitude changes like putting a cold coal back into the fire and it instantly turns red hot again.
Father, thank You for showing us the plans that You have for our lives by instructing us to renew our minds with Your word. Thank You for helping us to stay sensitive to the things that are important to you as you transform us into the image of your Son. In Jesus' name, Amen.
