The Gifts of Prophecy and Tongues

January 13, 2022

As I look at the Gift of Prophesy given by the Spirit I see something that bares mentioning here, and that is this: prophesy is the Spirit of God speaking to you through a believer when you may be under a lot of stress to bring you a word that will help you come to a place of peace and comfort. This is “God speaking to man.”

1 Corinthians 14:2-3

2 "For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.

3 "But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men."

Prophecy and tongues contrast in whom they speak to; tongues is “man speaking to God.”

With the gift of tongues in operation your spirit is speaking directly to God, not man to man. I find it interesting to note that the Spirit of God is always speaking to me but I’m not necessarily listening.

Have you ever noticed that all of the gifts mentioned to us as the nine gifts were used all through the Old and New Testament except Tongues and Interpretation of Tongues?

I believe this deserveses our examination into this matter a little more as I think about.

I ask You, Father, in the name of Jesus, that You would give me ears to hear You more clearly. My heart is in a state of pain and sorrow from the loss of loved ones, as well as seeing close friends of mine falling away from You and the power of Your Word. Help us Lord Jesus, Amen.

Blessings on the journey, and remember that the best is yet to come.
